In this two-part series, I retrace the ancient trade routes of the Amazigh Empire—journeying from Marrakesh toward the Sahara Desert by hitchhiking along the paths once carved by the salt and gold trade. These routes, which historically connected regions like Timbuktu in modern-day Mali to North Africa, played a vital role in shaping cultural and economic exchange across the continent.
Along the way, I rely on the generosity of strangers, travelling with locals whose lives remain closely tied to the landscapes and traditions of these historic corridors. Through conversations and shared experiences, the journey becomes more than a physical retracing—it’s an exploration of how this legacy still resonates today.
The film blends adventure with cultural reflection, uncovering stories of identity, memory, and continuity. By following these forgotten routes, I aim to reconnect past and present, offering a perspective on how history lives on through the people who inhabit it.
